it's late, and i don't think i'll be awake much longer so i'll just say that playing music is so great. yesterday was the debut performance of lead nikkel. lead nikkel is the band that my friend ryley started a few years ago. it wasn't the full lead nikkel playing, because we don't have a permanent bass or lead guitar player, but carlos (a foreign exchange student from columbia) is awesome at bass and he played with us at our school talent show yesterday. i played drums of course, and ryley did guitar and vocals. technically it was a paying gig too, because we got a whole $20 just for being in the talent show. it was so cool, me and ryley made up some kick ass costumes (we got a few pictures, i'm gonna try and get a hold of them to put up here) total 80's rock stars. we've been practicing for a few weeks now, and we were really tight for the show. the lights went down and the gym filled up with students from school all over town plus our entire student body. first laine katy and matt went out and did their sweet ass two guitar/one bass instrumental original. then some niner dancing girls. next we had chantelle (amazing singer, i think i fell in love with her right there) and then dianne read some of her own poetry. after that micheal sang this i promise you (he's really good too) and another band (i think they're called happy thoughts) covered well i guess this is growing up. they were out of time, but the lead guitarist just nailed it.
last but not least, we went out and sealed the deal. as soon as they saw us, people started cheering and whistling. we got up on stage and ryley said "hello.... i'm ryley nickel (little applause) and this... is lead nikkel...... (big applause) we're gonna play a song for you today called the future children of rock and roll. then we got carlos to grab the mic and say "future children of rock and roll? with pants like those you'll never have future children. and ryley went caaaaaarlos.... (magic school bus) to which everybody laughed. then ryley went right into from the dust part II. he finished, i switched his amp to distort and ryley screams "y'all ready to rock and roll?!?!?!" which got the crowd screaming and we just blasted into future children of rock and roll. i was just so pumped. we rocked and rocked and rocked and before i knew it, we were done and people were coming up to complement us on how good we were. i've never had as much fun in my life. after we got everything put back where it was supposed to be, ryley carlos and i went back to ryley's house and celebrated over pizza and pepsi.
the high is just starting to fade, but i'm already gone. i gotta crash. later everyone.

SUPER WOW!
ok, now that i've got your attention, it's time to announce that i, steve newman, am back from spring break. yes, i. and i had an awesome time. i arrived in edmonton at around 2pm last tuesday, and i didn't do much that day, just walking around whyte ave, window shopping... ya know. then the next day i walked on over to my old highschool to visit people over thier lunch break. i was met with much surprise and many many hugs. i spent the hour with sarah mostly, just catching up. after lunch i met with mary and hung out with her during her spare. we made a candy run to a nearby 7-11 (oh thank heaven) and got wired for the rest of the day. next block i sat in on stewart's math class, i had to explain to like 10 different people who i was and why i've never been in their class before. after math came stewart's firness test, administered by none other than sarah. so me and sarah talked while stewart ran and sat up ans pushed up and chinned up and did a whole bunch of ups so that sarah can see where he needs work. after stew was burnt out and sarah was satisfied, she gave me and him a ride to his house, where we hung out for a while. we got ansy so me and stew dug out his frisbee and started playing don the road a ways. soon his little sister and his neighbour devon (female) and her little sister conner joined us. and finally devon's bf jordan and another neighbour chelsey joined and the street seems a bit too small for our game. we wandered over to a nearby park and played some ultimate frisbee for about an hour, but it was cut short when jordan got pissy about something devon said. probably for the best, my sisters were starting to wonder where i was. so i went home and i went to bed.
next day i slept in past the lunch hour, so i just went up to whyte ave and got my hair trimmed and painted black by my stylist christie (at hair 4 u design studio, check them out (shameless pimping alert)) and got myself a venti caramel frappucino at starbucks. then i headed back to the school to catch people as they got let out. i met up with kat and said hi to theresa and then on my way back home, i ran into val. she gave me her number and told me we had to hook up. then i walked on home and messed around on my sister's computer. i took a few pictures then, but i took a crap load of them the next morning when i first got up (i'm gonna puit them up for you to see once i get the chance)
i'll talk about the rest of my break tomorrow, cus i really gotta get to work, like now. the pics will be up soon too.
